What to Expect When You Visit CandleTree in Downtown Concord
Shopping for a candle in person is a different experience than browsing a website. Here's what you'll find when you stop by 44 North Main Street.
The First Thing You Notice
When you walk into CandleTree at 44 North Main Street, the first thing you notice is the smell — not a single fragrance, but many, layered together in the air of the shop. Dozens of candles are on display from the current seasonal collection and the year-round signature scents. Unlike shopping online, where you are reading a fragrance description and imagining, here you can work through the collection at your own pace until something stops you.
How to Navigate the Scents
The best approach is to go slowly. Move from lighter, fresher fragrances toward heavier and more complex ones, and give your nose a moment to reset between each. If you are shopping for a gift, try to have a general direction in mind before you start — warm and cozy, bright and clean, earthy and grounded — and use that to narrow the field quickly. The staff are genuinely helpful and know the collection well; do not hesitate to describe what you are looking for in plain terms.
What You Will Find
CandleTree carries its full range of candles at the Concord storefront, including seasonal fragrances that rotate throughout the year and the signature collection of year-round scents. The marbled candles are best appreciated in person. Photographs capture the general effect, but the actual depth of the pattern through the glass, and the way a lit candle illuminates the wax from within, is something you have to see directly. Each candle on the shelf is unique — what you pick up is genuinely yours and no one else's.
Ross and the Workshop
CandleTree is a small, owner-operated business. Ross Mingarelli, who started pouring candles in a Concord basement in 2016 and opened the storefront in 2019, is often present at the shop. If you want to talk about how a specific candle is made, what is in a particular fragrance, or what is new in the collection, there is a good chance you are talking directly to the person who poured it.
Downtown Concord
The CandleTree store sits on North Main Street, the main commercial corridor in downtown Concord — New Hampshire's state capital. The area is compact and walkable. The gold dome of the State House is visible a short walk away, and the street has a mix of independent shops, restaurants, and longtime local businesses. A stop at CandleTree fits naturally into an afternoon in the city. Street parking is typically available on and around Main Street, and the store is easy to find.
Before You Come
